Fanfiction
Welcome to the fanfiction section. For those of you don’t know, fanfiction simply means fiction written based not on your own world or characters, but on someone elses. When someone who loves Harry Potter writes a story about it, or him, or just anything based in that particular universe, that’s fanfiction. Obviously it can never be sold. It is even technically illegal, a form of copyright infringement, but by and large it is an accepted practice sanctioned even by the original authors, if only by silence (FF has a list of authors who have requested that there not be anything featuring their works, and this list will be observed and respected here). It is purely a labor of love, undertaken by those fans who simply can’t stop when the book/movie/anime does. When I began to write in this field, it was with the thought that I didn’t need to make my career in writing: I could be satisfied with being able to write, and having readers to recognize and acknowledge what I did, which is indeed possible thanks to sites like Fanfiction.com. But the fact is that when I’d made this decision, I hadn’t written for quite a while – I’d put it aside to better learn the art of graphic design. Once I began, I was reminded of what writing really meant to me, and in time I came to realize that my old dream of becoming a true, original novelist was something fanfiction just could never replace. In completing Fate/Spiral Time over the course of two years, I proved to myself that I was ready to complete my own novel at last, and that is what I intend to do – and then all over again of course.
However, that does not mean that this section is doomed to eventual stasis. First of all, just because my primary interest is now my original work doesn’t mean I can’t toss out the odd fanfic now and then. The ideas still come, and sometimes you just can’t leave them unrealized. There just won’t be any more as long, detailed, and layered as Fate/Spiral Time (though I know its fans will be disappointed to hear it). And the research for the novel will take a little while, and I have to have something to write in the meantime, as I have never precisely been a fountain of short story ideas. So you can still look forward to occasional pieces from me. In addition, I’ve always been partial to the idea of a collection of quality stories lifted off of Fanfiction.com and gathered in one place somewhere else, where you wouldn’t have to wade through knee high heaps of mutated, crippled imitations of the english language to find them. Additions will be on and off, but I do intend to expand on the collection already to be found (most of what you see below is not mine, but collected with permission, as described).
